New Good News!
Hello Young Artist Lab-ers-
Some very exciting good news to tell you about! Our current summer season will be hosted by some terrific theater spaces, part of our goal to mix lab work with working artistic professionals on the west side of LA.
We will be starting our first class off in good company, as local theater company Pacific Resident Theatre will host our Improv Clinic! Pacific Resident Theatre is one of LA’s most celebrated companies, having won several LA Drama Critics Circle Awards overs its past 25 some years in the Westside community. Our imrov class will have its 707 space all to ourselves for the camp, and hold a performance on a prfessional stage. PRT is located at 701 Venice Blvd, two blocks west of Lincoln. Very cool.
Not to be outdone, however, our Musical Theater Workshop July 20-24 will be hosted by the Miles Playhouse in downtown Santa Monica. The Miles Playhouse has a long tradition as a public performance space, with teen open mic nights, dance and theater productions in constant rep. For those not familiar with the Miles, it is a 1929 Spanish Colonial mission styled building located in Reed Park. Our camp will have access to the stage and theater, which give us the chance to dance on a gorgeous marley floor, and establish a relationship with one of Santa Monica’s leading performance venues.
Very exciting news, and I can’t wait to see you all soon!
Whoops.
Hi Guys-
Well, there was bound to be some mix ups in our first months, and I have been alerted to a typo. Those of you who have had me in class at PCH know that typos and mispellings are part of the territory…
Our Movie Making Course will be held from July 27-31, despite the course description stating “our two week course.” I appologize for the mix up, and hope that most of you have been planning around the dates themselves. Any questiosn, please just call the Young Artists Lab line at 310.383.9484
Thanks!
What / Who / Why ?
Glad you asked.
Lets see.
Young Artists Lab is a new incarnation of an old idea we started at Pacifica Christian High School’s SummerArts program in2006. The idea was that artists come in all shapes sizes styles and yes AGES. And when you are a young artist, its especially important to work out that artistic energy with other artists of different shapes styles and ages. Because sometimes a young artists need other artists to help them realize just how to express all that creativity bottled up in side of them.
Teen agers have a lot of energy and not a lot of great opportunities to use it in a creative way… which sometimes leads to them giving up and sitting in front of a TV set. Sound familiar?
Young Artists Lab is a place where high school aged actors, designers, directors, and musicians can go to seek instruction, get feedback, share their thoughts and ideas, and most importantly – learn how to best get their voices heard in that loud clattering world out there.
So here we are. The Young Artists Lab. Finally. And there will be more to come, telling you more about how we arrived here and about where we are going to go from here.
Please leave your thoughts here at the blog site, and check the website for schedules, work shops, etc.
See you at the Lab!

Lab-enthusiast and Founder YAL
